Youngsters for 22nd Badminton Merano Junior Open 2014
Four Young Maltese Players will be travelling to Merano, in the North of Italy, to take part in the 22nd edition of the Merano International Junior Open, between the 3rd and 4th May 2014.
The Maltese contingent is made up of four Paola BC players - Matthew Abela, Mark Abela, Sam Cassar and Sarah Fava. Whilst this is the boys’ second international experience, this will be the international debut for Sarah Fava, Malta’s U/13 National Champion.
220 players from 8 different countries will challenge themselves over these two days. Games will be played in two sports complexes on 15 courts. In the singles event, players will be put in groups, then qualifiers of each groups will play in the final knock out phase, whilst the doubles event will be played in the usual knockout format. The Maltese players will be taking their chances in both singles, as well as doubles events.
The tournament will provide the Maltese youngsters with a good opportunity to test their Int’l skills against European counterparts and obtain valueable overseas playing experience.
The contingent will be accompanied by coaches Edmond Abela and Patrick Cassar
