The Prime Minister is prepared to convene Parliament even after January 7, 2013, to proceed with the impeachment of Judges Ray Pace and Lino Farrugia Sacco.

Dr Lawrence Gonzi said that this morning he called an urgent cabinet meeting which discussed the cases on the two judges.

He added that it is with great disappointment that he is presented impeachment motion on both judges.

Judge Ray Pace was arraigned on Thursday and accused with criminal charges.

Judge Farrugia Sacco was advised five years ago not to remain at the helm of the Malta Olympic Committee but he still retained his position which came under investigation by the International Olympics Committee.

"These incidents led to reduced respect towards the judiciary," Dr Gonzi said.

The Cabinet this morning decided that impeachment motions are presented today to the Speaker.

The Commission for the Administration of Justice is now expected to investigate both Judges and issue a report.

The Prime Minister said that the law empowers him to convene Parliament urgently even if this has been dissolved.
